| St Michael's Mount |
St Michael's Mount is associated with many legends and visions. In legend it was the home of the Giant Cormoran until he was slain by Jack The Giant Killer.
The Mount has been revered as a site of holy power for
thousands of years, and is particularly associated with St Keyne who made a pilgrimage to the mount. Other Cornish saints are also said to have stayed on the mount. The mount was dedicated to St Michael after a vision of him was witnessed here in 495, stories differ as to who the witnesses were, either monks, local fishermen or a lone hermit.
The present castle - family seat of the St Aubyn family - is said to be haunted, and was originally a Benedictine priory.
