Wistmans Wood, Dartmoor

This strange and twisted woodland is thought to be one of the few remnants of ancient woodland dating from prehistoric times. The woodland broods with the feeling of enchantment and visiting the wood is like a walk in the otherworld.

In tradition the wood is haunted by a pack of Yeth hounds and it is from here that they start their wild hunt across the moorland. They follow their master, who may be the Devil, Odin, or any number of spectral huntsmen on the search for souls across the moorlands. The dogs are described as jet-black in colour snorting fire from their nostrils.
