The Morpeth Arms

‘Traditional and haunted pub! Full of character, the Morpeth Arms pub offers great views of the Thames and charming service.’ The Morpeth Arms, run by Youngs Brewery is a grade II listed building dating back to 1845.

It was built as a public house by Paul Dangerfield and can be found on the corner of Millbank and Ponsonby Place. It was opened to quench the thirst of the wardens at the infamous nearby Millbank Prison. The Tate Gallery now stands on the site of Millbank which held prisoners before they were transported to the colonies.

There is a tunnel that runs into the cellar of The Morpeth Arms where it is rumored that a prisoner from Millbank may have committed suicide. It is thought that it maybe the ghost of this person that haunts the pub. Members of staff have had several experiences which we hope to find out more about.
