Tynwald Ceremony


5 July - An open air meeting on Tynwald Hill, said to have been built from a portion of the soil from each region of the island. The ceremony involves the reading of the years laws at the Midsummer Court.  The members of Parliament meet at St Johns for th eceremony which dates back to the ninth century and Tynwald derives it's name from Thing-Vollr, the Norse name for parliament field.
