hey all,
if anyone is around in Carlisle, Cumbria on 12,13 and 14th Nov you may be interested in this
http://www.carlislebluesfestival.com/
now in it's fourth year and featuring Ian Siegal, Michael Burkes, Mud Morganfield, Ben Prestage, James Hunter plus lots more over three days.
Thanks for the info Alison. Wish I lived in carlisle that weekend...about 90miles from me.Had a look at web pages.... Sounds like the place to be.The number of acts will be covering everything on Rock N'Roll and the blues.Seems like a big venue.Wish they'd all come to Ayr or Glasgow.
Hi Dan, SNAP online at same time. Hows it going. Just put apic on page.
Must have been a brief visit by me,
played a gig in Glasgow last night and tried out a squier classic vibe strat, it stood up well to the Les Paul to say it is a cheap guitar. One thing I do to all guitars I play is raise the action and put heavy strings on them, I never play below 11's it makes a big difference (to me anyway) in the tone and tuning, and the amplifier is a big part of the sound - the dalmallyfest footage is only a 15watt Laney tube amp.
15 watt amp is loud enough for home use and this wee Fender I'm told can be heard three sreets away, can even outplay the radio at full blast and my computer amp and they are loud. That guitar on the right of the inserted pic cost £200 its a Cort and all the guys at RGM music shop like it and use it for demos of course there is the more expensive Corts. This one's good for old rock'n roll, heavy,Blues and you can make it sound like a Bass even palm the strings you get a drum effect. The one on the left an old vintage kay audition is light as a feather and thin, great sound too.The mate that got the asbo has a squier, he's left handed so I swapped his srings around, had a go on that and that sounded good, it was a bit strange tuning it upside down as I'm right handed.Did you read in papers few months back Eric Clapton was fishing with a freind on the Scottish borders and dropped into a village music shop for his mate to buy a guitar for his wee boy I think.Eric was playing a wee cheap guitar and his pal bought it. A young lad in to buy a guitar got his signed by the man himself. If I'd been there I'd have bought one just to get it signed by the man.The shop owner is supposed to apologised for not having more expensive guitars.Well the cheap guitar was ok by Mr Clapton.Rattling on here a bit.Still practicing all the stuff I mention above and my sound settigs are better now.Going to try my beefy slinky 11 to 54 strings. Not broke any string for a while. The 9 srting feels too thin at times.
Hello again Daniel,
Could you post here the date and time of the "Eagle Hotel Prestwick" gig you told me of that you and the band might be doing in November. If its still on I will be there to see "The Seventh Sons" perform.
Thank you Wullie.
Hi Wullie - will do I will PM you

Hi Danny,
Thanks..I'm thinking the gig must be at the Eagle Tavern at the cross, the first pub into Prestwick coming in from Killie. I dont know if its a ticket event or punters just turn up.
Its bound to be a full house. If its just turn up I will get there early to get in. Here's my email ad...smgr59@gmail.com...

Well!
Fellow guitar amatuer learner Jim whom I hoped to have a jam with had PC PLOD banging on his door. Jim loves everthing guitar and like me he is still learning. He already had been given an ASBO by the local COUNCIL and he got it firstly when his mate had a go on his guitar. So Jim got the urge to play one night, as I do often, and plugged it in...next thing Bang! Bang! on Jims door. Men in blue...tho it looks more like black to me. Sure was for Jim, I got a phone call from him...he sounded upset and asked me if I wanted to buy his gear. I told him just use the head phones..there was no way this would make him any happier...Ive used them and its not the same. Yes we learners make a lot of noise, yet about six thirty in the morning I am awakened by car engines giving it the 10 minute warm up on choke...and there is the exhaust fumes drifting into my kitchen window from the early and all day bus 30 yards from my back window and early morning shop deliveries by smokey noisy diesel trucks. I used to sleep with my window open but my neighbor gives the car a "lets gas the the guy upstairs" never mind him he's not working. Well if I get an ASBO for my guitar I'll wear
it proudly. But please give me it in "Heavy Metal" so I can wear it round my neck. Your a long time dead and thats when you'll hear the sound of silence. AND THEN...As Bon sang,,,"LET THERE BE ROCK".
If anybody watched "Later with Jools Holland" Late Friday night... It was fantastic...With Cyndy Lauper, also a Lady lead singer and a great guitar band ...She wore a yellow dress. Forgot the name of the young band that played a stormer..think they are the next big thing at the festivals.
WHY? wasnt Cyndy Lauper chosen to play Janis Joplin in the movie? She'still a great blues singer...in 2010. Rock on the Oldies..They sure are hard to beat.
Been busy lately - gig this saturday maybe see you there wullie
