Well guys, I'm heading up to Orkney for a puckle of days for a job interview with SNH. They gave me a list of places to visit while I'm up there such as the Stenness Stones, Ring of Brodgar, Maes Howe and Skara Brae. Any more ideas or places to visit?

Off to Orkney

I think that covers most of the major ones, never been there myself but has always been on my 'to visit' list. Hope you enjoy the trip.

Hi Urisk,

I've not been to Orkney either so I'm not much use to you here.  Of course if you happen to take some pictures or find anything interesting, please think about Mysteriousbritain :).

I hope the interview goes well mate.

THe Tomb of the Eagles is a good one - huge underground burial chamber on a farm, or the Broch of Birsey is another good one, but you have to check the tide times.

One recommendation if you go to Orkney is get your hands on a car. Public transport is okay but it doesn't get you everywhere.

I'm taking my own car up, Agricola, nothing's quite as good as your own freedom! :D

I'd love to see the Broch, but unfortunately I doubt I'll have time as I'm only spending one full day there and I can't be at the mercy of tides, so I can only explore the mianland this time.

Thanks Ian! :)

I shall be bringing my camera up, so hopefully I will get some nice pics! Will try and get some nice landscape pics if you need any for the site :D I'm looking to try and immerse myself in a bit of the folklore as well, you know Trows and all that.

Hey guys that's me back. Aye Ian it would be based in Kirkwall :) Beautiful island, although the weather was atrocious! I understand that it was universal though.

Interview was OK... I'm still waiting for word although it was difficult. I'm not building my hoeps up, but ti would be great; I badly need to spend more time up there. Never got into Maes Howe on account of the weather. :(
