Perfect Blue is an Anime classic and I bought a copy years ago. I've not seen the others and I'm not sure whether I think "I'm a Cyborg but that's Ok!" appeals or not lol.
I also love the paranormal/kung fu type films that came out of China, like Chinese Ghost Story and Mr Vampire.
I've heard the Wrestler is pretty good Vix. Micky Rourke does look pretty rough doesn't he.
Great movie, fantastic acting by Mickey Rourke, he obviously had a lot of empathy for his character.
Only down side of the movie for me was spending most of it shaking my head and wondering why (In real life) such a handsome bloke succumbed to all the Hollywood bullshit and went down the cosmetic surgery route, very sad.
Not seen this yet and have heard that Mickey Rourke looks a bit rough, but, he did spend a while in the boxing circuit (fair play) at quite a late age: I read in an an article that he suffered quite a bit of facial damage through boxing so maybe he has more of a reason than many of hollywoods elite to go for facial surgery. But maybe it was purely cosmetic. I always think people look worse after plastic surgery anyway. The fountain of youth is definitely a myth - unfortunately.
"I think i'm a cyborg" is really odd, especially considering it's made by much of the same staff who did Old Boy as well. I think it's one of those marmite films- people either hate it for it's oddness, or love it for the same reason. Like Donnie Darko.
Haven't seen much chinese stuff lately, though I have a couple lurking on my hard-drive i keep meaning to watch. Sometime, when I have less work on. >_>
we're off to see Watchmen at the cinema tonight - not sure if it's going to be my cup of tea but I'll enjoy the Ben & Jerry icecream...

Indeed you are correct about the boxing, but I believe the surgery started with a facelift, and unfortunately progressed from there, I think (IMHO) he has been a victim of a bad surgeon as well as bad descisions! Looks like he's even had his lips done!
Before I go off topic too badly, what's even more of a shame is that he's now limited in the kind of roles he is offered, a rough wrestler and Marv in Sin City are great roles, but I can't see him doing any "romantic lead" type parts a la 9 ½ Weeks!
I believe his next role is in Iron Man II as a Russian baddy!
I have just watched Star Trek and it was fantastic. Being somewhat of a trekkie I was very unsure about whether I would like it, especially since they take the established timeline and throw it in the bin. As long as you view it as a potential alternate universe they have created, it is a great fast paced action packed film, totally unlike anything else I have seen related to Trek. Bring on more.
Well.. Last night, I completed my third and final viewing session of Satantango (Amazon), a Hungarian film with an exceptionally long running time of seven and a half hours.
The film concerns the inhabitants of a depleted collective farm in Hungary, at the time of the decline of state communism in Eastern Europe.
Thanks to the long running time, the film's framework is based on long sequences (the longest one is about 40mins) and long takes (the longest being about 10mins); therefore you're treated to the most unabridged picture of the motivations and machinations behind the plot out of any other film you're likely to see.
It's a film you'd expect to be dry and monotonous but, it's the opposite - a rewarding cinematic experience both on a visual and intellectual level.
I saw Let The Right One In two weeks ago. I really enjoyed it. My friend wasn't too impressed as it was quite slow moving in parts but I thought the two main characters were well played by the two young actors. If you haven't seen it and are going to, watch out for the 'Jaws' like scene near the end!! You'll know what I'm talking about.
I really want to see the new Star Trek Film too!
I've been back on the spanish films and a whole host of really bad horror films. I think I have seen about every variation of fake blood on the market.
But I'd recommend "Volver" as a good watch if you don't mind subtitles. Penelope Cruz in an all-spanish role, and a nice intrigue.
I watched Valkyrie on a flight this week. If you haven't seen it and you like a good WWII film then I recommend it. It's not in the same league as Downfall, but Tom Cruise does play the part of a Nazi Colonel very well, and there is a great plot and sad ending.
