hmmm this is interesting, giants used to feature alot in ancient stories. they were mainly male though. i am not sure but i think i may have read about something a bit like this in the past. wracking my brain trying to think what it was. i will do my best to have a good look round any of the sites i usually go to and see if i can find anything. if i do i will let you know.
don't you mean the hag of the house tale old wives told
it talks of boggarts changing shape into old hags and moving houses furniture and hiding precious objects but they only did this when someone from an irish or celtic family are going to die!
