Historical Merlin and Sites of interest
I have for a while now, with my best friend been investigating the various myths associated with Merlin (Wether he is one man or several is not my interest at the moment, but has factored into my research) We have taken it upon ourselves to try and gather together as many Merlin stories and such to see if we can draw some sort of correlation between all the myths... as of yet we are starting to notice a trend relating to stories of him being the gaurdian of Arthurs resting place, the treasures of Britain (Alderly Edge and Dinas Emrys for example) and to the local geography arround the sites. For us to underpin our theroy we shall have to visit as many of thease sites as possible, and it is with this in mind that we ask humbly for your help
I was wondering if any of you wonderfull people have any other places we could go and investigate, we don't mind travelling the country, as we have done many times before... im not EXACTLY sure what we are tying to find ( i dont know, I reckon Merlin would love a Beer) but we shall see
So if any of you fine people have even the sniff of what could be a Local Merlin Myth/Story/Annecdote please let me know as i will be most interested to investigate further.

To start with we have a few Arthur related sites here:

As we come up with more whilst filling the website we will add them. Just looking at the maps there you get the impression they tend to be on the western side of the country, the sort of Celtic fringe as you might say.
If anybody also feels they can add to any if the articles please do so in the comments boxes under them and if you want to add new places to the maps we can do that it you post or e-mail the artice text
Hi Ian... when i manage to root out my notes i'll type a list of places that i have been or have marked for further investigation... There is also the possibility of the stories from france... as alot of modern thinkers would argue that Arthur and his knights are a french invention.... but i shaln't get into that here
I shall endeavour to add my own notes... As of yet... i have found no one in my local who likes to listen to me ramble on about my findings... maybe i have found the right place to do so ;) hehe

In cumbria you could try Arthuret, a small village with some links to Merlin.

There are also tales of Arthur sleeping at Hodnet Gardens in shropshire... they even have a cave with a model of him in !
If you are into the later Arthurian stories, the poem 'The Lady of the Lake' by Sir Walter Scott suggests the lady of the lake lived in Loch Katrine. I don't live far away from there and i'm not suprised why it was chosen- it is very beautiful and so is the woodland. It isn't far from Loch Lomond and the general area of that part of Scotland has a few ancient ties to the Arthurian tale. A lot of people believe Merlin was born in the lowlands of Scotland.
Northern France might be somewhere to explore too.
