I really only have one. It was very weird.
When I was about twenty (i.e. about eighteen years ago) I was going to a country party in northern New South Wales with some friends, one main friend and some people I had just met. We all climbed out the back of a truck and walked down this dirt road towards the house the party was at.
I got talking to a guy - about 30 years old, brown woollen jumper, black dreadlocks, crooked teeth - who was talking back to me as we passed under some shady trees. I can't remember what the conversation was about but I recall I was quite interested and he seemed like a good guy.
Anyway, then when we got out of the shady patch, I realised that the person who was there with me was actually a girl in her twenties, much shorther, brown hair, nothing like the guy I'd been taking with.
"Where did that guy go?" I said, looking around. I still recall that exact moment, the feeling of shock and confusion.
"Who?" she said.
"The guy...he was just here. Black dreadlocks? Funny teeth?"
"Sorry mate. I have no idea who you are talking about."
Anyway the girl also had no clue about what we had been talking about while we'd been walking along. It was either that I imagined both the guy and the conversation, or like he was just suddenly replaced by a different person, who had no memory of talking with me about anything.
I searched the party and found no trace of the guy with the black hair. My main friend did not even recall seing him on the truck and thought I must have just made him up.
I've had two experiences that could be considered hauntings.
I'm a veterinarian and was working in a nearby town when this occured. The building was a brand new metal sided one right by this ditch that nearly always had water running in it. On more than one occassion I would catch what would seem to be a loose animal in the building out of the corner of my eye. The one time I swear I thought it was one of the black cats that was there at the time. Each time after checking the kennels there would be no loose animals. My sister, who worked for me during the summers, also had very similar experiences.
While in college there was another incident but it was entirely different. In fact it would be closer to a poltergeist type experience. One of my close friends while in high school and college had told me about odd things that would happen in his house. The weirdest one related to me was that a pool table supposedly floated up in the air and towards another aquaintance. I never heard it directly from the person it occured to so it may have been exaggarated. Anyway, there were three of us at my friend's house one night. The house had a finished basement with a doorway right off of the den. The stereo down there suddenly came on while no one was down in the room. Next from the upstairs there was a sound like a drawer full of silverware being shaken from one of the bedrooms. We all went upstairs and nothing was disturbed. Although I do not think so I do have to admit these two occurences could have been set up. The third could not have been. There was a toy setting down on a table. It was one of those that have a spring and suction cup that you push down and the toy pops back up. I know for a fact that the toy was not pushed down when the three of us went up the stairs and no one would have been able to stop and push the toy down. When we came back down the stairs the toy was pushed down and ready to pop up.
I had a similar experience with strange noises from upstairs whilst I was in my late teens. I was having an argument with my brothers and tempers were high. It was probably over who turn it wash to do the washing up or make a cup of tea (lol). Our shouting stopped when there was a crash from upstairs, follewed by a second. The noise was from the bathroom and no-one was upstairs, not even our dogs. There was another crash, and and a forth. The three of us that were present startedto creep upstairs. There was another crash before we got to the bathroom. Inside we found each item from the bathroom shelf had been knocked down into the bath. Large bottles of shampo, deoderant, soaps etc, all lying in the bath. The shelf was about three foot or more above the bath and about eight inches deep. These items obvious were not positioned on the edge of the shelf so that they might have become unbalanced. No animal was notices and the shelf was inaccessible to any rodents (not that we ever had any).
It was unusual, but was it paranormal? No of us were in a position to see any of the items move on their own and I assume there must be an explanation.
"There was another crash, and then a fourth. The three of us that were present started to creep upstairs..."
Just like in the movies.
"Honey what was that frightening, unexplained noise?"
"I'll just go take a look..."
If I remember correctly I was being pushed up the stairs being told that I was the f**cking Ghostbuster and I'd better sort it out lol. There was no real volunteering to go and investigate it :).
I have always been interested in the paranormal, and am very open minded but I don't tend to believe everything paranormal I hear about. However, there have been a few incidents in my life which I cannot explain.
My first experience happened when I was only ten(I'm now in my twenties) and is quite hazy but i will try my best to describe it. I was walking along a local footpath, known as the wagon road, with one of my friends when we heard footsteps behind us and when we turned round we saw a young boy with red hair. My friend started to ask him his name a few times but he said nothing, so we kept walking. when we turned round again he was gone and there was nowhere he could have gone that we could think of. We thought it was weird but being kids didn't think much of it, but, looking back a few years later, i remember he didn't seem to fit, he wore clothes none of my friends wore and I don't know how to explain it but I get a creepy feeling when I think about it. Maybe it's just my imagination playing tricks on me though!
My second experience happened at my house, i will keep this one brief. Basically I was in my bedroom which is next to the bathroom and I was living alone at the time so no one else was in the house. I had my door open and saw a sock come flying out ogf the bathroom and land on the floor. Needless to say I ran down the stairs and slept on the sofa that night. I have no idea what caused this and it still puzzles me.
My final experience happened when I was in sixth form at school. I live very close to Muncaster Castle and we went on a school trip there one day. I was in the tapestry room and I am certain I heard a voice whisper in my ear but I could not understand what was said but I did catch trhe word 'NO'
As I said, I'm quite skeptical, but have an open mind, and these three events have really puzzled me. maybe I just have an overactive imaginaion!
It might be interesting to see if there are any other reports of activity on this foot path. You never know.
Flying socks? Had some kind of animal got into your washing basket?
What year would this be Horrorpopper and roughly what date? I'll pass it on for the case files.
Hi, Ian. I have googled the footpath but, unfortunatley, I can't find much out about it.
The flying sock really does continue to puzzle me. I don't know what could have caused it as I stupidly didn't check the bathroom out until the next day.
The Muncaster incident, I think, jappened in October 2003, I'm not sure of the exact date but I think it was early October if that helps.
Edited: Sorry, I don't want my experience up anymore.
Thanks for that account Hannah. Sometimes hauntings can be disturbing and I am sorry you had a bad experience.
Since 1066AD, Westminster Abbey has been the traditional coronation and burial site for British monarchs, but there are no members of the Royal family among the ghosts that reputedly haunt here. Read More »
