The Bridestones are a set of natural weathered stones that are thought to have been used for ancient worship. A weathered horned head is carved into one of the stones, the date of the carving unknown.

On 31st December 1978 an object was seen hovering in the sky above Dumfries by numerous witnesses, the incident was explained as a meteorite, but many eyewitnesses were adamant it was not.

The first structure on the site was a motte-and-bailey castle, which was started not long after William the Conqueror became king in 1066, the castle was built on the old Roman walls, which once formed the corner of Londinium. I also saw this at about 4.30pm in Liverpool. It was so near I could almost touch it! I was in a taxi at the time so I had a witness. I now live in London and I am a pensioner but I will always remember this in detail. It was New Years Eve and I was on my way to get ready for the evenings celebrations. I would like to know if there were any more sightings in the UK on this date. This was most definatley not a meteorite, it was silver coloured an like a cigar shape.
