Mull of Galloway


According to legend this was the last stronghold of the Picts. In their last battle with the King of Scotland they were all killed bar two, a father and son. The King wanted to know the secret to making the Picts famous Heather Ale and started to question the older Pict. The Pict made it clear that his son must not be allowed to know that his father had divulged the secret and asked the King to kill his son first and then he would recite the secret recipe. After the Pict child was dead the father told the King that he would never give the secret away. He had feared his son my buckle under torture so had tricked the King into killing him. The Pict then leapt to his death from a cliff taking the secret recipe with him.
