Miskin Manor Hotel

Miskin Manor is an AA 4 star, Grade II listed country hotel sited within twenty-five acres of gardens and grounds in the Vale of Glamorgan at Pontyclun. Today is it an ideal venue for weddings, conferences and events, but the site of the hotel has a long and colourful history dating back to 1100AD when Rhys ap Tewdwr’s (the last King of Deheubarth (Born before 1065 – Died1093)) daughter, princess Nest ferch Rhys (Born around 1085 – Died before 1136) lived there.

The current building was first constructed in 1864, and it has entertained guests such as the Prince of Wales (before he was King Edward VIII, (Born 23 June 1894 – Died 28 May 1972)), and Prime Minister David Lloyd George, 1st Earl Lloyd-George of Dwyfor (Born 17 January 1863 – Died 26 March 1945). Tragically, the building has suffered two fires during the last century, the first one in 1922 destroyed everything except the outside walls, and the second one happened in 1952 when the house had been converted into post war flats. In 1985 the property was purchased, extended and converted into the country hotel that we know today.
The Miskin Manor Hotel is reputed to be haunted. The following events and sightings have been reported:

1) Apparently a female ghost is seen regularly between 00:00 and 01:00 hours gliding from the drawing room to the bar, where she disappears. There was once a staircase where the bar is now, so it is thought that the ghostly woman is still travelling the route that she once did in life.

2) A heavy hanging picture was witnessed by more than one person, dropping off the wall on to the floor, when somebody verbally questioned the existence of the female ghost above.

3) The ghost of young girl has reputedly been seen in one of the bedrooms, the Oak Room and also playing in the gardens.

4) The apparition of a male figure has apparently been seen by visitors and staff in the Oak Room.
