Phantom hitchikers
I would love to know about any phantom hitchikers in England,and to follow a story from my country,South Africa.
Between Uniondale and Willowmore,in the semi-desert area of the Karoo there is a very well known story about a phantom Hitchiking girl.

Between Uniondale and Willowmore,in the semi-desert area of the Karoo there is a very well known story about a phantom Hitchiking girl.
This has been very well documented in newspaper articles and other media since the 70’s,and even the name of the girl is known.
Maria Grimbeeck or Groesbeeck.
She and her fiancee where on theire way back from a Easter weekend spend at one of theire families,and late on the Sunday night,whilst Maria was asleep,her fiancee fell asleep at the wheel as well,they both died on impact,and ever since she has tried to find her way into the nearest town to get help for her fiancee,as she doesnt realise she died in the accident.
The first sighting was by a young man who gave her a lift on his motorbike,she put on the helmet,and off they went,a few miles later,his bike swerved suddenly,and he brought it to a stop,Maria was gone,and the helmet strapped to the helmet holder again..the guy obviously went into such a panic,as he thought she had fallen of at high speed,raced to the nearest town,and reported the incident to the police,but she was nowhere to be found.
From then on,almost every Easter weekend people would report picking up this girl,only to have her vanish.
This has to be the most well known haunted stretch of road in my country.

I am not sure that there are many first hand accounts of Phantom Hitchhikers and I know I have never met anyone who claimed to have picked someone up. I am actually unsure whether they are more of a modern myth than an actual haunting type experience.

I read through what you posted,and it gives way more info on the case than I could đŸ™‚
Yes,this is a very interresting haunting,there is quite a few stories in S.A about ghosts in full wedding attire,that for some reason are doomed to forever haunt sites where there are water,as in ponds,lakes,rivers etc,I will have a browse to refresh my memory about these.
The Uniondale Hitchhiker has
The Uniondale Hitchhiker has got me thinking a little more. Each experience was really quite differant. Although the road (though probably not the exact location) and the description of the girl is the same, the experiences differ. One is a car driver, she gets in the back seat and disappears. A cry or laugh is heard and an independant witness sees the car door opening on two occasions.
The second experience involves her getting on the back of a bike after fitting a helmet and mike. These are found attached back on the bike when she vanishes and the jack of the mike is found to be fused.
The third experience has disincarnate hands wrapping around a motor cycle rider which vanish when he speeds up.

In the article about the German hitchhiker it is described as prophetic. Are there many prophetic hitchhikers and how accurate are they at forseeing the future?

From the accounts of these prophetic hitchhikers I have read, I don’t think any of them have come up with any real detailed prophecies, just vague warnings of doom. I think some of these then get linked to any coincidental event that happens in that general area. I will try to get a few more up over time. I may be wrong, but there seems to be a lot of these type of hitchhikers in America, whereas they are not common in the UK.
