This section will outline traditional, ancient, local and regional festivals that are, and were, celebrated in the British Isles.
Many of the older celebrations have fallen in to disuse because of their pagan origins and their root in folklore and superstition. Others are still carried out in certain regions whether to celebrate a great victory, to commemorate heroes or just to remember links with our past ancestors.
We have not outlined every festival yet and what follows is a brief summary of some of these festivals. We will be expanding on these lists in the near future, and hope to publish some of the folk festivals still practised in Britain.
