Acaster Malbis Parish Church
In his book ‘British River Navigations’, Stuart Fisher mentions the following. ‘Jews fleeing persecution in York in 1189 used [the church at Acaster Malbis] for worship so angry villagers set fire to it, killing all those inside. There are bloodstains on a windowsill and it has been referred to as the Synagogue.’
