Grand Theatre, Lancaster
The Grade II listed Grand Theatre in Lancaster is one of the oldest in Britain, being opened by Charles Edward Whitlock and Joseph in 1782. Though the theatre was rebuilt in 1908, it is thought to have a ghost that lingers from the early 18th century.
The Grey Lady that has been witnessed sitting in the stalls and drifting across the auditorium is thought to be the famous 18th century actress Sarah Siddons (born 5 July 1755 – died – 8 June 1831). Her younger sister Elizabeth (born 2April 1761 — died 27 February 1836) was the wife of Charles Edward Whitlock and in 1795 Sarah played Lady Macbeth at the Grand Theatre.
