Sir Bertram Clough Williams-Ellis, CBE, MC (28 May 1883 – 9 April 1978), was an English-born Welsh architect, who created this popular tourist attraction in the style of an Italian village between 1925 and 1975. The village is a popular wedding venue and hotel, with each cottage and building being a room or suite. Portmeirion is also known for its World famous pottery and as a location for several film and television programmes, most notably it was ‘The Village’ in the 1960’s series ‘The Prisoner’.
It is alleged that the ‘Seconds China Shop’ in the village of Portmeirion may be haunted. Staff members have been told by guests that they have seen somebody in the shop long after its closing time. The sightings cannot be explained.
