Llindir Inn, Henllan
The thatched Grade II listed Llindir Inn dates from 1229 and is certainly one of the oldest pubs in Wales. It is reputed to be haunted by a ghost thought to be named Sylvia, the wife of a sailor who strangled her after finding her in the arms of another man whilst on unexpected shore leave.
Stevenson Street, North Shields
The following account first appeared in Catherine Crowe’s The Night Side of Nature, or, Ghosts and Ghost Seers (1848) and was repeated in The Haunted Homes and Family Traditions of Great Britain by John Ingham (1897). The case concerns a residential property being leased by Mrs L in the early 19th century.
USS Arizona
On 7th December 1941 the US Pacific Fleet was attacked in Pearl Harbour by aircraft of the Imperial Japanese Navy, bringing the United States of America into World War II. The attack lasted 90 minutes and resulted in the loss of 2,386 American lives and wounding a further 1,139.
Fred Archer, Newmarket
Hamilton Stud Lane in Newmarket is reputed to be haunted by the champion Victorian jockey Fred Archer who is seen sat astride a grey horse. Frederick James Archer was born in Cheltenham on 11 January 1857, son of Grand National winning jockey William Archer.
Town Hall, Henley on Thames
It has been suggested that the ghost of Mary Blandy was witnessed by a number of people at a re-enactment of her trial at the Henley Town Hall sometime prior to 1969. Her actual trial took place on 3 March 1752 at the Oxford Assizes held in the hall of the Divinity School.
Churchfield Wood, Turville
Churchfield Wood can be found North East of Turville Court and is thought to be haunted by Mary Blandy who was executed on 6 April 1752 for poisoning her father. Mary was known to have visited Turville Court, though not the current building which only dates from 1847.
James Street, Covent Garden
In 1696 the antiquarian John Aubrey (12 March 1626 – 7 June 1697) published his Miscellanies which included the following account of an apparition being seen in a house on James Street, Covent Garden.
Captain German Wheatcroft
On 14th November 1857 Captain German Wheatcroft died whilst serving his country during the Indian Mutiny and at the time of his death, his wife is said to have witnessed his apparition whilst in her Cambridge home.
