Two Haunted Counties - A Ghost Hunter's Companion to Bedfordshire & Hertfordshire by Tony Broughall & Paul Adams

As it says on the back cover of the book, a twelfth century Gilbertine priory, a Chrysler car factory, a de-sanctified church and a Georgian period lavatory are just a few of the haunted localities from the case files of 1970s ghost buster Tony Broughall.

This book contains some of the most interesting and unusual stories of our native British ghosts from a headless witch and a spectral plague cart through to the sinister shade of a clawed monk and the apparition of a Second World War tank [anyone who knows about my interest in tanks would know this caught my eye straightaway!]

I have read a lot of gazetteer books based on the paranormal and after opening Two Haunted Counties I quickly realized that it would become one of my firm favorites. Based upon Tony Broughall’s 1978 book Ghosts of Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire, this new book, Two Haunted Counties, draws upon Tony’s forty years experience investigating the paranormal and gives an up to date account on some of the locations and experiences featured in the original book.

Within its 156 pages are 56 black and white photographs and a large A-Z formatted collection (over 160) of hauntings and other paranormal experiences from Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire, including well known cases such as the haunting of Minsden Chapel, The Brocket Arms, St Albans Abbey and St Mary’s Church at Clophill, as well a host of cases I’d never heard about.

Usually I like to see maps associated with gazetteers, but to be honest, I don’t think this book needs them as the content is good enough in itself. If you like visiting the Mysterious Britain & Ireland website, I think you’ll love Two Haunted Counties - A Ghost Hunter's Companion to Bedfordshire & Hertfordshire.
