When Andy first got in touch regarding his new book I was intrigued by the concept of a paranormal book which contained a collection of stories from what I consider to be one of the most reliable forms of evidence – Police Statements.

According to David Taylor’s excellent article ‘Scareships or Motherships : The British phantom airship scare 1909 – 1918’ in February 1913, multiple witnesses reported a large, dark cigar shape in the sky.

According to David Taylor’s article ‘Scareships or Motherships : The British phantom airship scare 1909 – 1918’, in May 1909, Coventry, England, tramway men reported an airship.
The following examination of the legend of Lady Godiva is by Edwin Sidney Hartland and appears in his ‘The Science of Fairy Tales’ (1891).
According to ‘The Folklore Of Warwickshire’ (1976) by Roy Palmer, ‘Drivers on the Coventry-Rugby road have been terrified at the approach of a lorry on the wrong side of the road. At the last spit-second, when a head-on collision seems inevitable, the lorry proves to be a phantom, and vanishes.’
I am unsure where exactly on the A428 the phantom lorry has been seen.
Roy Palmer in ‘The Folklore Of Warwickshire (1976)’ tells us that ‘A Coventry musician, called Thomas Holt, who had nineteen children, sold himself to the devil to solve his financial problems.
According to ‘The Folklore of Warwickshire’ (1976) by Roy Palmer, a Black Dog ‘with a matted, shaggy coat and green eyes roams Whitmore Park at night. People avoid the area, since to see the dog means a death in the family’ It is thought that in 1949 this creature standing about six foot tall was seen on Watery Lane.
