mystic rosette?
hi,
have seen this rosette in various old UK churches – can anybody tell me what it symbolises please?
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~aferm/images/rosette.gif
in churches it is generally inscribed in stone and never coloured and always apparently the work of the laity as opposed to stone masons?
hope you can help? / thanks

Re: mystic rosette?
I couldn’t say about churches in Europe, but what you just showed is almost identical to certain Amish Dutch hex signs they hang on thier barns to ward off evil.

Re: mystic rosette?
many thanks
yes the Dutch-American motif is known to me – but it sheds no light at all on the parish church engravings in the UK?
thanks again
