On 7 March 2013 Mike Hallowell published the article below in the Shields Gazette entitled ‘Did Barry have close encounter with a UFO?’ In the article the article he gives Gazzette reader Barry Alton’s account of a UFO he saw in 1966.
On 6 January 2010 the Shields Gazzette published the following article entitled ‘Crowds flock to see church spectre’. It concerns the reporting of an apparition in the 19th century outside an unnamed Whitechapel church.
The Peterlee Star printed the following story entitled ‘Boy, 13 ‘beaten up by ghost’ on 9 July 2009, concerning an experience reported by a young Hartlepool boy.

Growing up around the Lancashire/Yorkshire border I was never too far away from Huddersfield and the Holme Valley so I was particularly keen to read this book in the Haunted series, on Huddersfield and the local area.
Mike Hallowell recounted the following story of a Leeds ghost in his article entitled ‘The strange case of the cellar dweller’ which was published in the Shields Gazette on Wednesday 10 October 2007.

Originally a merchants house built in 1741, The Palace had become a registered Inn by 1841, possibly due to the Beerhouse Act of 1830 which enticed private residences to be become public houses.

The Marsden Grotto is a pub and restaurant found within a cave on the South Shields coast and is probably only one of a few such ‘cave bars’ in Europe, if not the only one. Apart from its unique location, the Marsden Grotto is also famous for its many reputed ghosts.
