There used to be a large manor house (now demolished) called Birchen Bower in Hollinwood in Oldham, which was famous for its alleged haunting by a Grey Lady called Hannah Beswick.

The hall – one of the oldest in Lancashire – has a footprint in its flagstones said to have been created when a protestant martyr was interrogated at the hall. The footprint is said to become bloody on the anniversary of his martyrdom.

Saddleworth church – dedicated to St Chad – has a legend associated with its location. It is said that the original site for the church was on nearby Brown Hill, but every night the stones were mysteriously moved to their present position. Eventually the builders gave up moving the stones back to Brown Hill, and built it where the stones were placed each night.

On Sunday 19th June 1966 a retired couple from Canada captured an extraordinary image on camera whilst visiting the Queens House in Greenwich. They took what is arguably the best known apparent photograph of a ghost. But this photograph is not the only piece of evidence that suggests The Queens House is haunted.

The ghost of a young girl has been seen in the garden of this 300 year old country manor house hotel. Although very close to Cheltenham Race Course, Prestbury House is also said to be haunted by the sound of horse’s hooves.

The Red Lion Hotel is a Grade I listed Building dating back to 1465. It is said to have two ghosts: a young girl who haunts the kitchen and, a monk who perished in a fire.
