The Feathers Hotel

The Feathers Hotel is a beautiful seventeenth century building with a carved timber façade and a reputation of being haunted. It was originally built for an attorney called Rees Jones in 1619 and the Feathers name relates to the Ostrich Feathers that are part of the design in the exterior wooden façade.

Tyn-y-Groes Hotel

The Tyn-y-Groes Hotel is an old drovers inn dating the sixteenth century. I found a reference in a Snowdonia walking book stating strange haunting like phenomena was supposed to have been reported shortly after a young girl was run down in a traffic accident on the A470, just outside the building.

Royal Goat Hotel, Beddgelert

The Royal Goat Hotel is linked to stories suggesting a haunting, though I don’t know of any actual haunting type occurrences that have happened there. The stories relate to David Pritchard, the first landlord of the Royal Goat Hotel and the man generally thought responsible for the Grave of Gelert.

The Ysgethin Inn

A Snowdonia guide specialising in walks starting from pubs, mentioned that the Ysgethin Inn was haunted.  It did not elaborate further, other to say that the ghost had been heard by the staff, though not actually seen it. The building was originally a pandy (fulling mill) and dates from early 1788.

Crossroad Blues

When Robert Johnson sang of the Crossroads down in the 1930’s Mississippi Delta, he was paying homage to a tradition that has existed in varied forms for centuries, and at the same time adding his own contribution to the wealth of folklore that exists around the crossing place of two highways.

The Bull, Shooters Hill

The Bull at 151 Shooter Hill dates from 1749 (though it was rebuilt in 1881) and it was a popular stopping place for coaches traveling along the route between London and Dover (Shooters Hill Road follows the route of the Roman Watling Street).

The Morpeth Arms

‘Traditional and haunted pub! Full of character, the Morpeth Arms pub offers great views of the Thames and charming service.’ The Morpeth Arms, run by Youngs Brewery is a grade II listed building dating back to 1845.

Tulloch Castle Hotel

This 12th century castle hotel is said to be haunted by an aparition of a Green Lady. Tulloch Castle also has an actual tunnel that runs from it’s basement to Dingwall Castle on the other side of town. Parts of the tunnel have collapsed and it is no longer in use.
